Escambia County Schools, Offices Closed Tuesday After Hurricane Isaias

Escambia County Public Schools and county offices will remain closed Tuesday following Hurricane Isaias, according to WKRG News 5.

The closure affects all district schools and administrative facilities as the region continues recovery efforts from the storm. No word yet on whether Wednesday operations will resume as normal.

Residents are advised to check the Escambia County Schools website and social media for updates on reopening status and any additional weather-related closures.

Escambia County Schools Closed Tuesday for Storm Damage Repairs

Escambia County Public Schools will remain closed Tuesday, October 13, as the district works to repair damage and restore essential services across its campuses, according to a Monday announcement from ECPS Communications.

School officials say district personnel and contractors are actively addressing damage from what appears to be recent severe weather. The district is coordinating with local utility companies to restore power and other vital services to school buildings. Transportation teams are also assessing bus routes to ensure safe operations before resuming service.

"The safety of our students, their families, our employees and this community remains our top priority," the district said in a statement. ECPS said it will post further updates through its Focus Communications system, social media, and local media outlets as repairs continue.

ECMS Foundation Names 16 Finalists for 3rd Annual Health Excellence Awards

The Escambia County Medical Society Foundation has announced the finalists for its third consecutive year of Health Excellence Awards, recognizing individuals and organizations improving health outcomes in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties.

Sixteen finalists were selected from nominations submitted by colleagues, patients, and community members. The winner announcement will take place Thursday, October 29 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio. According to the foundation, awards will be presented across seven categories that include both clinical and non-clinical roles, as well as honors for ECMS Physician Members.

"Every one of these finalists was nominated by someone who sees their work up close and wanted to make sure it was recognized," said Ellen W. McKnight, MD, president of the ECMS Foundation. The finalists represent a range of healthcare professionals and supporters working in the local medical community.

Tickets and sponsorships for the October 29 event are available at escambiacms.org/hea. The foundation notes that past years have sold out, and encourages early registration. Emerald Coast Hospice is returning as the Legacy Presenting Sponsor. Proceeds benefit the ECMS Foundation's community health programs, which include the Go Seniors! Transportation program, the Blood Pressure Cuff Program, and physician wellness initiatives, along with scholarships at FSU College of Medicine's Pensacola Regional Campus and Pensacola State College.
