Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Escambia County's Natural Resources Conservation Division is set to conduct a prescribed burn in the Jones Swamp Wetland Preserve today. The burn will cover approximately 74 acres located south of Highway 98 and is supervised by a Florida Certified Prescribed Burn Manager, with assistance from the Florida Forest Service. Controlled burns are weather-dependent and conducted throughout the fall and winter to promote healthy ecosystems by mimicking natural fire patterns. Officials say the burns help maintain open understories, enhance soil fertility, and reduce the risk of larger wildfires by managing fuel loads.

Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The SEC Women’s Soccer tournament kicked off at Ashton Brosnaham Park over the weekend, the University of Florida faced a setback, falling 1-0 to the University of Kentucky after a goal by Catherine Rapp in the 11th minute. In other action the University of Alabama secured a 2-0 victory over the University of South Carolina; Mississippi State University advanced with a narrow 1-0 win against the University of Oklahoma; and LSU triumphed over Auburn 3-2. This i the fourth year for the tournament being hosted in Escambia County.

Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Pensacola’s Waffle House at 3300 West Park Place has officially closed its doors to sit-down diners, and is now operating solely as a delivery-only kitchen through DoorDash. Waffle House says diners can still enjoy the classic 24-hour fare at over a dozen other nearby Waffle House locations. The change is part of a nationwide corporate rollout initiated in September, and aims to cater to modern dining trends seeking convenience. For diners at home, it also means meal prices could rise significantly with delivery fees. Waffle House executives say the partnership with DoorDash will allow them to extend their commitment to hospitality and consistency to customers at home.
