Tallahassee, FL -- This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week — a time to recognize the dispatchers and call-takers who serve as the link between the public and first responders. Florida Highway Patrol communications personnel handle an average of nearly 38-hundred calls every single day across seven regional centers statewide. FHP Colonel Gary Howze says their ability to stay calm under pressure and gather critical information is essential to protecting Floridians around the clock.
