Republican gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds has picked his running mate. Donalds named state Senator Bryan Avila as his choice for lieutenant governor Tuesday, making the announcement at Miami's Freedom Tower. Avila, a Republican from Miami Springs, is a captain in the Florida Army National Guard who's represented Cuban-majority communities in both chambers of the legislature. Accepting the nomination, Avila invoked his family's story, saying his parents fled communist Cuba for freedom in Florida — and vowing that under a Donalds administration, socialism will never find a home in the state.
