MILTON, FL — Santa Rosa County commissioners unanimously approved accepting the final utility easement needed to complete the Eglin RIBS effluent project at Navarre Beach during their regular meeting Tuesday.

Edwin Henry donated the last link for the Navarre Beach component of the project, which will allow the county to get effluent out of the sound.

"Michael, me, Tom, we have worked on getting this little section, and it took a while," Commissioner Ray Eddington said. "And I want to thank you all being on board to get this done. And it's a big improvement for the beach down there in Navarre."

The county held a groundbreaking for the project several years ago but has been waiting on this final piece to move forward. With the easement now secured, the county can begin running the rest of the pipe.

Commissioner Kerry Smith congratulated Eddington on securing the easement, telling him "good job." The RIBS (Reuse of Innovative Biosolids Systems) project is designed to remove effluent from the Santa Rosa Sound, improving water quality at Navarre Beach.
