Santa Rosa County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Santa Rosa County has now approved impact fees. That happened yesterday at the Board of County Commissioners meeting --
"Everything is pushed to the consumer... we understand that" said Commissioner Kerry Smith. "We shouldn've had them in place.... it's been my argument we never should have let them go." Smith said a lot of the county's current issues were caused by not looking into the future.
The fees will start in May and are among the lowest impact fees in the state. Fees for a single-family home will be $1,636. Multi-family residences will range from $789 per unit for high-rise building sto $1,171 per unit for smaller buildings. Commercial developers will be charged per square foot.
The money will be used for roads in the county. Impact fees were last discussed prior to November's election, when they were tied to a 1/2 cent local option sales tax which was defeated at the polls.
