Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) --The search is on for a contractor to tear down the old Baptist hospital. The city issued a request for qualifications last Thursday for companies that are interested in taking on the project. It would involve tearing down at least 12 buildings over nearly 40 acres. Once the city gets responses they'll create a shortlist of companies that are eligible to bid on the project early next year. Responses to the initial RFQ need to be in by December 5th. The demolition work is being funded by state grant funding and a donation of the land and $5-million dollars by Baptist Hospital. The city will have to take ownership of the property before the project proceeds -- but they are currently waiting for an in-depth environmental study and a title and land survey before finalizing the donation agreement with Baptist Hospital.
