Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Hurricane Francine is making its way toward the Louisiana coastline. It remains a Category One storm with maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center. The storm is expected to make landfall sometime later today, bringing with it life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds. At last check, Francine was churning less than 200 miles southwest of Morgan City, Louisiana.
Locally, we're expecting some effects from the outer bands of the storm, including lots of rain and potentially high winds. Officials warn the storm could also cause tornados to form in our area. Most of the effects will be felt tonight through early tomorrow morning.
Escambia County Public Schools are running as normal today, but they have cancelled extracurricular activities, games, and practices for this afternoon and evening.
