Congressman Matt Gaetz is demanding answers after a report that he says outlines "racist DEI programs" currently in effect at the Department of Veterans Affairs. Gaetz responded to a report by the Washington Free Beacon that outlined a number of VA-sponsored "support groups" in several states that specifically exclude white veterans from participating. Those groups include a "black veterans peer support group" in Minneapolis that welcomes "all veterans who self-identify as Black", as well as a "race-based stress/trauma empowerment group" in Long Beach, CA that welcomes "veterans who identify as black, indigenous, and people of color". In a letter to VA Secretary Denis McDonough and the House VA Committee, Gaetz is requesting an oversight hearing by the committee, saying "no federal resources, let alone sponsorship by the agency itself, should be given to these discriminatory programs".
