The 35-million dollar Pensacola Beach renourishment project is in its final stretch with crews now working past the fishing pier toward Park West near Fort Pickens. About 1-point-2 million cubic yards of sand have already been pumped onto the beach with a total of 1-and-a-half million planned. The Santa Rosa Island Authority says the project may come in several million dollars under budget. The Casino Beach area will be briefly closed for tilling once the pipe equipment is removed later this week. The entire project is expected to be complete by May 19th.
