Escambia County's Beach Safety Chief says they are in the process of reducing staffing for the slow season -- but he says his guards are still keeping a watchful eye on the beaches. Dave Greenwood says guards will still be in towers through Mid-October, then they'll have a minimum of two lifeguards on duty after that. He says lifeguards take so many preventative actions things don't end with a tragedy -- and he says the safest place to swim is a guarded beach.
