Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- A charter elementary school is coming to the University of West Florida campus. The UWF Board of Trustees has approved the university to serve as the authorizing body for Somerset Academy, a charter school network that operates seventy-five schools nationwide. President Manny Diaz was clear the university will handle oversight only — not day-to-day operations. The school is set to open in August with fifty to sixty students in kindergarten through third grade, with UWF students, faculty, and staff receiving enrollment preference. The school could eventually grow to serve up to five-hundred-eighty students through fifth grade. Construction behind Argo Village is already underway.
