COUNCIL LOOKING AT CERVANTES STREET IMPROVEMENTS

There could potentially be some more safety improvements on Cervantes Street -- the Pensacola City Council briefly discussed the "Cervantes Corridor Project" on Tuesday at their agenda review meeting. The council is looking for support to apply for federal grant funding to cover the estimated $ 4 million dollar cost. Some of the changes could include eliminating or narrowing lanes, and adding bike lanes and speed bumps. The last major safety project on Cervantes was completed back in 2021 when median barriers and led crosswalks were installed and the speed limit was dropped from 35 to 30 miles per hour. The council will vote on whether the proposal has support on Thursday.
