Over 120 million Americans are expected to travel for Christmas, with just over 8 million flying from Dec. 20 to Jan. 1. TSA advises shipping gifts when possible; if not, leave them unwrapped when traveling through the TSA checkpoints. Most food is allowed in carry-ons but remember the 311 rules: each traveler may bring three 3.4-ounce containers in one quart-size bag.


Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- A Shalimar man has been sentenced to over seven years in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition. Zackery Chase Brunson was prohibited from owning guns because of prior felony convictions. During a search warrant executed at his home in January, federal agents found two rifles, a shotgun, three pistols, and multiple types of ammunition. Brunson pleaded guilty to possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon. The case was investigated jointly by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

Flomaton, AL (Newsradio 92.3) -- The Town of Flomaton has a new police chief. The town council voted unanimously Monday night to promote interim Chief Justin Hetrick to the full-time position. Hetrick, who has been serving as interim chief since early December, says transparency and community engagement will be crucial to his administration. The department has seven certified officers. Hetrick's promotion comes after former Chief Dereck Lowry resigned in December after serving since May 2024. The council initially appointed Hetrick as interim chief before holding a special meeting Monday to officially interview and vote on his permanent promotion.
