Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- A warning from PPD -- scammers are impersonating law enforcement and telling people they have warrants, missed jury duty or owe fines. Officers say they are demanding immediate payment or threatening jail time. PPD says to remember that police will never call demanding payment and will never ask for gift cards, wire transfers or cryptocurrency. If you receive a scam call, police say you should hang up immediately and call your local law enforcement agency. Officials are uging folks to talk to family and friends -- especially senior citizens about the scam.

Two new public restrooms designed with safety and maintenance in mind are coming to downtown Pensacola.

Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Two Portland Loos will open to the public Tuesday at Palafox Market on North Palafox and at the nearby skate park, Mayor DC Reeves announced.

The innovative facilities feature intentional design elements developed by Portland and other cities to prevent misuse and keep spaces secure. See-through panels allow visibility underneath and above, while specialized overhead lighting is designed to deter certain activities without sacrificing user privacy.

"All of the technology makes it easy for our police to see if there was anything that shouldn't be happening there," Reeves said. "They're easy to clean, easy to maintain and easy to keep safe."

The restrooms are part of the city's broader downtown revitalization efforts, addressing the need for clean, accessible public facilities in high-traffic areas.

Tallahassee, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Florida's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is reminding drivers that January is Move Over Month. Under Florida law, drivers must move over a lane for emergency and service vehicles stopped on the roadside, or slow down to twenty miles per hour below the posted speed limit if moving over isn't safe. The law was expanded January first to include any vehicle parked with hazard lights flashing. In twenty-twenty-four, there were two-hundred-five crashes and over seventeen-thousand-five-hundred citations issued for failing to move over. Drivers aged twenty to twenty-nine are most likely to violate the law. Officials say the simple act of moving over can save lives.
