Tallahassee, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Florida's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is reminding drivers that January is Move Over Month. Under Florida law, drivers must move over a lane for emergency and service vehicles stopped on the roadside, or slow down to twenty miles per hour below the posted speed limit if moving over isn't safe. The law was expanded January first to include any vehicle parked with hazard lights flashing. In twenty-twenty-four, there were two-hundred-five crashes and over seventeen-thousand-five-hundred citations issued for failing to move over. Drivers aged twenty to twenty-nine are most likely to violate the law. Officials say the simple act of moving over can save lives.
