Workforce Summit August 26th to Prepare Region for Shipbuilding Job Boom

Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- The City of Pensacola is hosting a Workforce Summit on August 26th from 2:30 to 4 p.m. — bringing together more than 30 confirmed attendees including representatives from Pensacola State College, Northwest Florida State College, and Florida Commerce Secretary Kelly. Officials say the summit is timed to coincide with the CareerSource Florida board meeting also being held in Pensacola at UWF the following day — the first time in recent memory that meeting has been held in Northwest Florida rather than South or Central Florida. Officials say the goal is preparing the regional workforce pipeline for the wave of high-paying jobs expected from the Burdon shipbuilding project and related industries — with attendees also touring the American Magic building during their visit.

Roger Scott Pool Had Over 23,000 Visits This Season — Permanent Restroom Coming in December

Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- City officials say Roger Scott and Hunter Pools combined for 23,116 visits this pool season with support from the Northwest Florida YMCA staffing both locations. Officials say the permanent restroom facility at Roger Scott Pool is expected to be delivered in December with site work beginning in October — well ahead of next pool season. Pool season wraps up in about two and a half weeks.

Pensacola Yacht Club Women Win Knost Championship After 53-Year Wait

Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- Pensacola Yacht Club's women's sailing team has brought home the Knost Championship for the first time since the early 1970s. The team, which included three service academy graduates now training in Naval Aviation locally, won the title August eighth and ninth in Pass Christian, Mississippi. Vice Commodore Susan Domagala says the win connects generations of PYC sailors, spanning back to the club's championship run in 1971 through 1973. The victory adds to Pensacola's growing reputation as a premier sailing hub, following American Magic's new High-Performance Center at the Port of Pensacola.
