Sunny, mild stretch expected through Friday in North Escambia

A stretch of pleasant fall weather is heading to the North Escambia area, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures expected through the end of the week. Daytime highs will settle in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees, while overnight lows dip into the upper 40s under calm or light breezes, according to the forecast. The sunny pattern should make for ideal conditions for outdoor activities and evening plans over the next few days.

Florida Executes Man Convicted in 1986 Deputy Killing

William Reaves, 77, was executed by lethal injection Tuesday evening at Florida State Prison for the 1986 murder of Indian River County Sheriff's Deputy Richard "Raz" Raczkowski. According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Reaves was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m.

The case dates back four decades. Reaves had been convicted in connection with Raczkowski's death and had spent decades on Florida's death row before the execution was carried out.

This execution marks another capital punishment case in Florida, which maintains one of the nation's most active death row populations.

Escambia County Clears 330K Cubic Yards of Hurricane Isaias Debris; Over 1M Remain

Escambia County crews and contracted haulers are working around the clock to clear storm debris left behind by Hurricane Isaias, with removal efforts ramped up to seven days a week since October 12.

According to North Escambia, county-hired contractors have hauled away approximately 330,000 cubic yards of debris across more than 7,400 loads so far. Despite the aggressive pace, more than a million cubic yards of storm waste remain to be collected across the county.

The combined effort of county personnel and outside contractors reflects the scale of cleanup needed following the hurricane. Residents can expect continued collection activity throughout the county as crews work to clear remaining debris from residential and commercial areas.
