Hurricane Francine is still making its way toward the Louisiana coastline. It's expected to make landfall as a Category 2 storm later today -- Coastal Mobile and Baldwin County have now been placed under a tropical storm warning. The National Hurricane Center says there could be 2-4 feet of storm surge in Mobile Bay. Our biggest threats across the area will be heavy rain, flooding, and possible tornados. The outer bands of the storm are expected to move into our area late tonight through early Thursday morning. The Navarre Beach Pier is closing at 4 pm this afternoon in advance of possible severe weather from Hurricane Francine. Officials say there could be dangerous surf conditions late this afternoon through Thursday morning. The pier will reopen at 8 am on Thursday morning. The Gulf Island National Seashore is expecting high water and flooding on Fort Pickens Road. Locally we could see up to a two-foot storm surge and high winds. There's no word yet when the Fort Pickens campground will reopen, but the park areas are still open for day use. Escambia County Public Schools have cancelled extracurricular activities, practices, and games that were scheduled for this afternoon and evening due to possible severe weather from Hurricane Francine -- but school is on as normal today. George Stone Technical College says they are holding classes as scheduled tonight.
