U.S. Naval Academy Fires Commandant of Midshipmen

Annapolis, MD (Navy Times) -- The U.S. Naval Academy has relieved its commandant of midshipmen after just five months on the job. Captain Gilbert Clark Jr. was dismissed due to what the academy calls a loss of confidence in his leadership abilities. The academy didn't provide specific details about why Clark was removed. His dismissal comes as the Naval Academy has seen several leadership changes this year. Deputy Commandant Austin Jackson has taken over as interim commandant. The commandant position oversees the day-to-day conduct, military training, and professional development of the academy's students.
