Sheriff Simmons Lobbying Congress on Mental Health, Fraud Prevention

Washington, DC (Newsradio 92.3) -- Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons is in Washington this week lobbying Congress on behalf of local law enforcement. Simmons says he's pushing for the Reentry Act, which would increase Medicaid access for inmates with mental health issues. He says 60 percent of the jail population suffers from mental health problems. Simmons is also supporting the ATM Fraud Prevention Act, which would regulate crypto kiosks often used in scams. He says criminals posing as law enforcement are directing victims to pay fines in bitcoin at convenience store kiosks. Simmons presented on community engagement programs at the National Sheriffs Conference earlier this week.
