Thousands packed stadiums across the region Friday for opening night of high school football — but storms nearly stole the show. Tate and Pine Forest both saw delays under a severe thunderstorm watch. Every athletic trainer was watching WeatherSTEM, a Tallahassee-based tracking system with stations at all seven Escambia County high schools. The system's color-coded like beach flags — lightning inside ten miles clears the field; beyond 30, it's all clear.
