Set Clocks Back Tonight as Daylight Saving Time Ends; Fire Officials Urge Battery Check

Pensacola-area residents should remember to set their clocks back one hour before bed Saturday night as daylight saving time ends and standard time resumes.
Fire officials are also using the time change as a reminder for a critical safety step: replace the batteries in your smoke alarms. The seasonal clock change has become a standard public safety reminder for homeowners to check and refresh smoke detector batteries, which can degrade over time and may not function properly in an emergency.
The twice-yearly time changes — "spring forward" in March and "fall back" in October — have long served as convenient calendar markers for routine home maintenance and safety checks. Residents are encouraged not to let the reminder pass by this year.
