Florida Corrections, Local Law Enforcement Checking Sex Offender Compliance This Halloween

The Florida Department of Corrections is conducting its annual Halloween compliance checks on sex offenders under felony supervision throughout the state, including here in the Panhandle, as part of broader community safety efforts during the holiday season.

The statewide initiative involves FDC officials and local law enforcement verifying that supervised sex offenders are following the terms of their release, which typically include restrictions on their movements and activities—particularly around times when children are out in public, like trick-or-treating.

Escambia and Santa Rosa County law enforcement agencies participate in these coordinated checks each October 31st. The compliance verifications help ensure offenders registered with the state are where they're supposed to be and adhering to any court-ordered conditions of their supervision.

Florida's sex offender registry and monitoring program is one of the nation's most stringent. Residents can check the Florida Department of Corrections sex offender database online to learn about registered offenders in their neighborhoods.
