Sen. Rick Scott Proposes Healthcare Reform Plan Featuring 'Trump Health Freedom Accounts'

U.S. Senator Rick Scott unveiled the next phase of his "Rescuing America" initiative on Monday, introducing a healthcare proposal he says would lower costs and expand consumer choice in the insurance market.

Scott's "More Affordable Care Act" centers on establishing what he calls "Trump Health Freedom Accounts"—HSA-style accounts that would deliver federal healthcare subsidies directly to individuals rather than to insurance companies. The proposal maintains key elements of the Affordable Care Act, including protections for pre-existing conditions and the existing healthcare.gov exchange system, while adding new competitive mechanisms.

The plan would allow Americans to purchase health insurance across state lines through a state waiver program, increase price transparency requirements for medical services, and enhance tax credits for small businesses offering coverage. According to Scott's office, the funds in the Health Freedom Accounts could be applied to premiums but would be restricted from covering abortion services or plans, in compliance with Hyde Amendment restrictions.

"Costs went up, people lost their doctors, and American families are still struggling for affordable healthcare solutions," Scott said in a statement, criticizing what he characterizes as the failures of the Affordable Care Act. "With simple fixes, we can bring more transparency to drive down costs and let families choose the plan that best fits their needs."
