Scott, Moody Introduce Bill to Protect Eglin Gulf Test Range from Drilling

U.S. Senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody have introduced legislation this week aimed at safeguarding the Eglin Gulf Test and Training Range from potential interference, according to a press release from Scott's office. The Protecting Florida's Offshore Military Readiness Act seeks to preserve the range's use as a military testing ground while the Department of Interior explores potential offshore drilling lease sales in the Gulf of America.

The Eglin range, located off the Florida coast, provides critical air, sea, and joint testing and training capabilities for U.S. military operations. Scott emphasized in the release that protecting the range is essential to maintaining American military readiness, while Moody called it "a national military asset that can't be replicated anywhere else in the country."

The bill comes as the Trump administration pursues expanded energy production in the Gulf. According to the senators' statement, the legislation would codify previous protections for the range, allowing uninterrupted access for military operations while the administration pursues its energy dominance goals. The senators argue that American energy expansion can proceed without compromising this unique military resource.
