SMALL UTILITIES IN SANTA ROSA ARE AGAINST THE FORMATION OF NORTH SANTA ROSA UTILITY AUTHORITY -- David Wayne
Santa Rosa County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- A group of nine water utilities in Santa Rosa County says they are against a new bill filed by state senator Doug Broxson. The bill would create a North Santa Rosa County Utilities Authority.
"We will continue to impress on our elected state senator and two representatives in the Florida House, that this bill needs to be completely withdrawn from consideration at this time,"
says North Santa Rosa County Utility Coalition Spokesman Robert Smith.
The group believes the legislation could affect the utilities and force rates to go up and employees to be fired. Senator Broxson disputes that claim and says the bill would have no effect on rates and would not force any local utility to fire employees. Broxson's legislation is also asking for money for a utility study in Santa Rosa County -- he says that study would show where utilities in the county are and where they will be in 20 years.
