Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- The Pensacola Children’s Chorus is preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as dozens of local singers travel to New York City this month to perform at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall.
A total of 57 singers from Northwest Florida will represent the Pensacola area during a June 15 performance. The chorus will first present its own afternoon concert before joining seven other invited youth choirs from across the nation as part of the National Youth Choir.
The trip is especially meaningful for many of the students involved. Fourteen of the singers come from low-income households or underserved neighborhoods and are able to participate through support provided by the Escambia Children’s Trust.
The Carnegie Hall appearance will also place Pensacola in the national spotlight. Pensacola Children’s Chorus Artistic Director Alex Gartner has been invited by Carnegie Hall producers to conduct the National Youth Choir during the event.
Before departing for New York, the chorus is inviting the community to a free send-off concert.
The performance will take place Thursday, June 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Pensacola. Organizers say the concert will give family members, friends, and community supporters an opportunity to celebrate the singers’ accomplishments and wish them well before they take the stage at one of the most prestigious music venues in the world.
The public is invited to attend.
