PACE MAN STEALS SOCIAL SECURITY FROM DECEASED MOM

A 39-year-old Pace man pleaded guilty to stealing over $100,000 of government funds in the form of his late mother's Social Security payments. David James Massey pleaded in federal court to Theft of Government Funds and now faces up to 10 years in prison. His sentencing is set for Sept. 30. According to the State Attorney's Office, Massey’s mother received her benefits in a joint bank account she shared with her son. Massey’s mother died in 2019, but authorities say he continued to receive and use her benefits for his own use. From the date of his mother’s death in 2019 through August 2023, Social Security deposited over $118,000 into the joint account. In accordance with his plea agreement, Massey will be required to pay back all funds he unlawfully stole from the SSA.
