There's big news in southern Alabama: the Orange Beach Express is going toll-free. The state announced yesterday that they are purchasing the Foley Beach Express Bridge for $60 million, and the last day of tolls is expected to be the Friday before Memorial Day at noon. In a statement, Governor Kay Ivey says "Alabama's Gulf Coast continues to experience record growth and success, and I am proud we are making needed infrastructure improvements in the area" to help ease traffic congestion for those visiting the beaches. When the sale is final, the Alabama Department of Transportation will operate the bridge, with construction of the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge continuing through spring or summer 2026.
