Over 100 new Sunshine State laws kick into effect at the strike of midnight. Some involve reform for condominium associations in the state, new rules for affordable housing developments, and a few payouts for victims of accidents. For law enfocrcement, a new law requires a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison if someone is convicted of attempted first-degree murder against an officer, state attorney, public defender or judge. With a rumored Trump Library in Palm Beach, Senate Bill 118 defers regulation of presidential libraries in the state to the federal government. Another new law prohibits "swatting," classifying calling 911 with a false report that leads to an emergency response as a felony. Another establishes a new first-degree felony for adult undocumented immigrants who knowingly enter the Sunshine State by avoiding immigration officers; and mandates the death penalty for undocumented immigrants convicted of a capital felony, such as murder.
