Man Wanted Following Robbery Attempt in Escambia County

Escambia County, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- A woman shot a man that attempted to rob her on Sunday. This happened as the victim was cleaning a rental property on the 400 block of Forrest Street. Two men were assisting the woman, 19-year-old Ja'tarius Johnson and 22-year-old Aviaun Smith. Deputies say one of the two men pulled a handgun and attempted to rob the woman, but she struggled and was able to retrieve her handgun and fire one shot. Both men then fled the scene. Johnson was later found at a local hospital being treated for a gunshot wound to the foot. Smith is wanted by deputies on warrants for robbery with a firearm, grand theft, and grand theft of a firearm.
