MAJOR PAY RAISE FOR NEXT PENSACOLA MAYOR?

Pensacola's mayor could see a major pay bump under a proposal from Councilman Charles Bare. Bare wants to tie the mayor's salary to the same state formula used for school superintendents — which would mean a 34-thousand-dollar raise, bringing the salary to about 168-thousand dollars. The change wouldn't take effect until after the 2026 election. Bare says it mirrors a similar formula voters approved for council salaries in 2022, and notes that most city department heads already earn more than the mayor. The salary would adjust annually based on the city's population.
