Long-Awaited Veterans Park Bathroom Project Delayed Over Budget

Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- A long-awaited bathroom at Veterans Memorial Park has hit a snag. Bids for the project came in over budget, forcing the city to pause construction plans. Mayor D.C. Reeves says the city is working on a menu of options moving forward, possibly including a Portland Loo. The project was funded with a $750,000 state grant three years ago, but construction costs have ballooned. The budget cap was about $600,000. The Veterans Memorial Park Foundation has been pushing for a permanent restroom for over a decade. The foundation says the city should explore an extension on the grant deadline before it expires.
