LOCAL LEADERS STILL LOOKING INTO BLUE ANGEL TRAFFIC ISSUES

Discussions continue this week on how to handle busy traffic on Blue Angel Parkway during Blue Angel training days. One suggestion that was made last week was to ask the Blue Angels to fly their training missions over Pensacola Beach instead of the NAS, but retired Navy Captain and former NAS Pensacola commanding officer Tim Kincella says that's a non-starter. Kincella says the NAS is the Blue Angels home, and asking them to train anywhere else would incur a massive cost and logistical issues. Other suggestions include requiring tickets to get onboard on training days and increasing personnel at the gate -- but Kincella says both of those options also have considerable costs. He says any inconvenience for the Navy could result in losing base access for the community.
