Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Lawmakers are back in Tallahassee today for another special session called by Governor Ron DeSantis to address illegal immigration.
"Our third special session in the last month or so," says District 2 state representative Alex Andrade. "Essentially to sing kumbaya with the Governor. I'm reviewing the bills that have been filed.... and presumably compromised between the legislature and the Governor."
Andrade says the big difference between this bill and the one passed a few weeks ago is that a committee would be formed to act as the Chief Immigration Officer for the state. The committee would include the Governor, attorney general, CFO, and agriculture commissioner. All immigration actions would have to be unanimous.
Andrade says he's still reading the bill and is undecided on how he'll vote. The bill would also include provisions to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving in-state tuition rates at colleges and universities and stop police from releasing illegals if they've been arrested.
