FWC Urges Beachgoers To Protect Nesting Sea Turtles Ahead Of Holiday Weekend

Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- With crowds heading to Florida beaches this holiday weekend, state wildlife officials are asking people to give nesting sea turtles and shorebirds plenty of space. F-W-C says staying at least fifty feet away, avoiding flashlights and flash photography at night, and filling in beach holes can all help protect hatchlings trying to reach the water. Officials also remind beachgoers to keep dogs leashed and clear away trash and gear before leaving the beach. Anyone spotting a distressed sea turtle is asked to call the F-W-C Wildlife Alert Hotline.
