FORMER HOSPITAL MANAGER SENTENCED ON WIRE FRAUD CHARGE

A former manager at Ascension Sacred Heart who fraudulently purchased hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gift cards was sentenced to three years in federal prison. The US Department of Justice says 54-year-old Timothy Gilbert used a company credit card to purchase over 600-thousand dollars worth of gift cards at Sam's Club between 2019 and 2022, he then transferred the money from those cards into personal accounts and made purchases -- and reportedly took large sums of money to gamble. Gilbert previously pled guilty to charges of wire fraud, money laundering, and tax evasion. Gilbert will serve three years in prison, and was ordered to pay more restitution to the hospital, $160-thousand dollars to the IRS, and $38-thousand dollars in court costs.
