ESCAMBIA COUNTY DEPUTY INVOLVED IN CRASH ON HIGHWAY 29

A deputy vehicle was involved in a four-vehicle chain reaction crash around 8:05 this (Wednesday) morning in Escambia County on Highway 29 at Tate School Road. According to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was at a red light when the patrol vehicle was rear-ended, causing the deputy to hit the vehicle in front of it. Florida Highway Patrol says one vehicle caught fire, but the sheriff's office says it wasn't the deputy vehicle. Pictures from NorthEscambia.com show the van behind the deputy vehicle with heavy damage to both its back and front. Another vehicle with heavy front damage came to a final rest in trees off the roadway. The Highway Patrol says two people were transported to the hospital with injuries, and the deputy was sent to urgent care with minor injuries. No further details have been released. FHP and the Escambia County Sheriff's Office are both investigating.
