Escambia County Corrections adds 9 new officers from academy

Nine new Corrections Officers have graduated from George Stone Criminal Justice Training Center's Corrections Academy and are joining the Escambia County Department of Corrections.

The graduates completed a rigorous 445-hour training program that included defensive tactics, firearms training, and CPR certification. The comprehensive curriculum prepares officers for the challenges they'll face in the county's correctional facilities.

"We're proud of this new class, and we're excited to watch them grow in their careers," said Commander Scott Nash. The department is working to build up its workforce during a period when correctional staffing has become increasingly competitive nationally.

To attract qualified candidates, Escambia County is offering sign-on bonuses up to $8,000 for certified officers and $5,000 for trainees. The department also provides a paid scholarship to cover academy tuition for recruits who don't already hold certification. These incentives reflect the county's commitment to recruiting and retaining quality personnel in corrections roles.
