Escambia County 2026 property tax bills mailed; Amendment 3 changes start in 2027

The Escambia County Tax Collector's Office has mailed out 2026 property tax bills, and Tax Collector Scott Lunsford is reminding property owners that those bills are accurate and due as printed — changes from Amendment 3 won't take effect until next year.
Amendment 3, which Florida voters approved, will significantly increase homestead exemptions, but the full benefit won't arrive immediately. The homestead exemption will jump from $50,000 (in effect January 1, 2026) to $150,000 on January 1, 2027, and then to $250,000 on January 1, 2028. Because Florida collects property taxes after the tax year they cover, this year's bills reflect only 2026 law.
"We understand the passage of Amendment 3 has raised questions about property taxes, especially as property owners receive their 2026 tax bills," Lunsford said. "The important thing to remember is that Amendment 3 takes effect beginning with the 2027 tax year. Your 2026 property tax bill is accurate, and the amount owed remains due and payable."
Property owners can save money by paying early. Those paying in November get a 4% discount, dropping to 3% in December, 2% in January, and 1% in February. The full amount is due by March 31, with taxes becoming delinquent April 1, 2027. Bills can be viewed and paid online at EscambiaTaxCollector.com.
