CITY RELEASES VIDEO OF 'EGREGIOUS' RED LIGHT CAMERA VIOLATIONS

Around 17,000 red light violations have been recorded since Pensacola installed cameras at its most dangerous intersections in January. There cameras have recorded an average of around 97 violations a day.

City officials have released a "top 10" video of the most egregious violations, which they say shows the severity of the infractions. "When your friends might tell ya at a party they got a ticket because they were a couple inches over the line.... we have these red-light cameras in because we have a driving issue at many of our intersections," said Mayor DC Reeves. "We really have a public safety issue that we're trying to address."

Reeves made those comments on his "Minute with the Mayor" video on social media this week.

The latest data still shows significant issues at locations like Ninth Avenue and Gregory Street, which alone accounts for 34% of all violations. A police officer reviews each flagged violation before tickets are issued. So far, 682 violations have been dismissed.

You can find the video on the city's Facebook page.
