Montgomery, AL -- Alabama is leading a thirteen-state effort supporting new U-S Postal Service rules aimed at securing mail-in ballots for federal elections. The proposed rule would standardize ballot envelope designs, add unique barcodes for tracking, and create a nationwide auditing system for mail-in voting. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall says once ballots leave state control and enter the postal system, the chain of custody becomes vulnerable to fraud — pointing to documented absentee ballot fraud cases in Alabama in the past year. Florida is not among the thirteen states signing the letter.
