DeSantis to hold press conference Sunday at Grayton Beach State Park

Governor Ron DeSantis will hold a press conference Sunday, October 11th at 4:00 p.m. Central Time at Grayton Beach State Park in Santa Rosa Beach, according to a media advisory from the Governor's Press Office.

The event will also include U.S. Senator Ashley Moody, Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, and Secretary of Commerce Alex Kelly. Media are asked to arrive by 3:30 p.m. CT and must RSVP to reese.davis@eog.myflorida.com to be credentialed for attendance.

The park is located near 357 Main Park Road in Santa Rosa Beach. No details on the topic of the press conference were provided in the announcement.

Free tarps, water available today in Pensacola, Cantonment

Escambia County is distributing free tarps and bottled water to residents today through 5 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis at multiple locations across the area.

The distribution sites include the Pensacola Cordova Mall at 5100 N. 9th Ave. and Anytime Fitness at 470 S. Chief's Way in Pensacola, according to reporting from North Escambia. Cantonment residents can also access supplies at a location on Chief's Way.

Residents are encouraged to arrive early, as supplies are limited and available only while stocks last. The county has not announced whether additional distribution events are planned.

Pensacola power restoration underway; boil water notice remains in effect

Recovery operations are actively underway across Pensacola following Hurricane Isaias, with significant progress on restoring utilities to residents.

Florida Power & Light has restored power to approximately 50,000 customers countywide as of Sunday morning, with additional service coming back online throughout the day, according to a City of Pensacola update. FPL crews have cautioned that there may be a delay between when service is actually restored and when outage maps on their website reflect those changes.

Meanwhile, the Escambia County Utilities Authority is maintaining a systemwide boil water notice for all customers in its service area. ECUA said residents should not drink or cook with tap water until the notice is lifted. The precautionary measure was issued to protect public health in the wake of the storm.

The City of Pensacola said recovery crews continue working to restore full services to the community.
