Typical summer heat returns to Pensacola area this week

North Escambia can expect temperatures climbing into the low 90s this week, with the best chances for rain hitting midweek, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Monday will start mostly sunny with highs near 91 degrees and just a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Northeast winds around 5 mph will shift to the southeast during the afternoon. Monday night should cool to around 73 degrees with partly cloudy skies and a 20 percent chance of isolated showers before 10 p.m.

Forecasters say rain chances will peak by Wednesday and Thursday as moisture increases, so residents should keep an eye on the forecast if they have outdoor plans mid-week. The typical summer pattern of afternoon heat and scattered storms looks to continue through the period.
