Tate High Teacher Wins $1,000 Sun Belt Conference Award

A Tate High School educator was surprised with national recognition and a $1,000 award Wednesday as part of an annual initiative to honor outstanding teachers. Lauralee Best received the gift from representatives of the Sun Belt Conference during a "Big Day for Teachers" event sponsored by the College Football Foundation.

The Extra Yard for Teachers program celebrates educators across the country who make significant contributions to their students and communities. The award provides funds teachers can direct toward classroom needs or professional development.

Best's recognition reflects the Sun Belt's broader commitment to supporting education in communities across its member institutions' footprint. The conference has recognized teachers through this initiative for several years, highlighting the intersection between college athletics and K-12 education.
