Pensacola Beach, FL (Newsradio 92.3) -- Some surfers on Pensacola Beach say they have noticed a greasy film on their skin after going in the water and believe it may be connected to the ongoing beach nourishment project. Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier Management says the slick feeling is likely algae and sediment stirred up from the ocean floor by dredging and not an equipment leak. Fishermen have also noticed fewer fish near the pier due to vibrations from the dredging pipe. The Santa Rosa Island Authority says the contractor submits daily water quality reports to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The dredging project is expected to wrap up by early May.
