Senator Moody Urges Floridians to Use National Drug Take Back Day This Saturday

Senator Ashley Moody is encouraging Floridians to dispose of unused and expired prescription medications this Saturday during National Drug Take Back Day, citing significant progress in the state's fight against opioid deaths.
The Drug Enforcement Administration will operate drop-off locations across Florida from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25. According to Moody's office, the April 2026 Take Back Day saw Floridians safely dispose of more than 23,250 pounds of medications. Find participating locations at DEA.gov/TakeBackDay.
Moody highlighted Florida's recent gains in reducing opioid-related deaths. According to the Florida Medical Examiners Commission's 2025 annual report, fentanyl-caused deaths decreased 37 percent from 2024 to 2025, and opioid deaths overall fell 33 percent. Florida's overall decline in fentanyl deaths has exceeded 60 percent since 2023, outpacing the national average drop of 22 percent, Moody's office said.
"Working with Governor DeSantis, we have taken strategic actions that have led to a 60% decline in fentanyl deaths in Florida since 2023," Moody said in a statement. "To keep the rate headed in the right direction, I am asking all Floridians to look in your medicine cabinet and take any unused or expired prescription medications to drop-off locations across the state tomorrow."
