Senate Democrats block Moody's fraud enforcement bill

Senator Ashley Moody's effort to establish a National Fraud Enforcement Division within the Department of Justice hit a roadblock this week when Senate Democrats blocked the legislation, according to a press release from Moody's office.
The bill would create a dedicated federal division tasked with investigating fraud schemes and recovering taxpayer dollars. Moody, a Florida Republican, introduced the legislation the day after it passed the U.S. House and framed the vote as a partisan divide over fiscal responsibility.
"Combatting fraud should be a 100-0 issue," Moody said in a statement. "Acting as good stewards of taxpayer dollars is the most foundational aspect of being a public servant, yet we continue to battle a party that seemingly wants to protect institutional grift."
According to Moody's office, the administration has uncovered more than $260 billion in fraud nationwide. Moody serves on the Senate Anti-Fraud Task Force, which focuses on identifying federal fraud vulnerabilities and advancing accountability reforms.
