Scrap Yard Fire Causing Heavy Smoke Near Pensacola This Morning

Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92.3) -- Pensacola fire officials say the scrapyard fire on Myrick Street is now around 70-percent contained. That update from Assistant Fire Chief Justin Hoard -- who says crews are making progress but the fire is still active and smoldering. Officials say fire crews will be on scene for several more hours. The state watch point, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and Coast guard have been notified. Citizens downwind from the fire were notified earlier this morning by the EOC. Earlier this morning Escambia County Emergency Management said drivers in the area should be cautious as the fire was producing heavy smoke.
